Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) 2016 will be conducted by seven zonal Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) under the guidance of Joint Admission Board (JAB) on May 22. Paper 1 will be conducted from 9 am to 12 pm and Paper 2 will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm. The performance of a candidate in this examination will form the basis for admission to various bachelor’s degree programmes in 23 IITs, including Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad along with other reputed engineering institutes.

This national level engineering entrance exam is the second stage of JEE. It will be conducted only for top 2 lakh rank holders of JEE Main in 2016. As CBSE has announced JEE Main 2016 cutoff, which is 100 for General category candidates, 70 for Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL), 52 for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 48 for Scheduled Tribe (ST), the top 2 lakh candidates above this cutoff in different categories will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2016. A candidate can attempt this exam a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.

JEE Advanced 2016 Eligibility Criteria:


Candidates interested in appearing for this national level engineering entrance exam shall satisfy the specified eligibility requirements before filling application form. Only top 2 lakh candidates of JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. A candidate, including a foreign national, must fulfill each and every one of the following five criteria to appear in this exam-

Criterion 1- Performance in JEE Main 2016
Criterion 2- Age Limit
Criterion 3- Number of Attempts
Criterion 4- Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination
Criterion 5- Earlier admission at IITs/ISM

JEE Advanced 2016 Application Form:


Candidates can now fill the Application Form to appear in JEE Advanced 2016, from April 29, 2016. They need to register online for appearing in the exam. Only those candidates can fill the application form whose scores are equal or above the JEE Main 2016 Cutoff marks specified for JEE Advanced. Also, they are required to satisfy the specified eligibility criteria before registering online.

The online registration procedure of JEE Advanced 2016 includes following three steps-
  •     Filling registration form
  •     Uploading Scanned Certificates
  •     Paying Registration Fee
JEE Advanced 2016 Syllabus:

Syllabus of the entrance exam will be prescribed by the conducting IIT. It will cover topics from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with which question paper will be prepared. Candidates appearing for JEE Advanced shall prepare these predetermined subject-wise topics thoroughly in order to secure a good score.

Some of the important subject-wise topics are as follows-
  •     Physics- Includes General Topics, Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics and Modern Physics
  •     Mathematics- Includes topics under Algebra, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Vectors
  •     Chemistry- Includes topics under Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry
JEE Advanced 2016 Exam Pattern:

The paper pattern of this national level engineering entrance exam is not fixed and it may change year by year. However, a few elements in the exam pattern are generally fixed. There are a total of 2 papers (paper 1 & 2) and candidates have to appear for both. The question paper consists of three separate sections viz., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. It is available in two languages - English and Hindi. Candidates have to attempt objective type (multiple choice) and numerical answer type questions that are designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates. Some sections carry negative marking also.
